Permanent Delegation of the Pacific Islands Forum to the United Nations, World Trade Organisation, and Other International Organisations in Geneva
The Pacific Islands Forum Geneva Office comprises two areas of work: trade and non-trade.
The Trade area consists of two sections. The Trade Negotiations section provides policy and technical advice on multilateral trade issues to Forum Islands Countries which are members of the World Trade Organization, and coordinates their participation in multilateral negotiations. The Aid-for-Trade Section assists Forum Island Countries, individually and collectively, to make a better use of Aid-for-Trade opportunities provided by Geneva and Europe-based organisations.
Non-trade work commenced in 2019, following the Forum Leaders’ decision to extend the Office’s mandate to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva. Engagement on non-trade matters is currently being prioritised.
In addition, the Geneva Office hosts the Europe desk of Pacific Trade Invest. The desk focuses on the development and promotion of Pacific Island exports across international markets in Europe and the United Kingdom.
The PIF Geneva Office is headed by Permanent Representative, Ambassador Mere FALEMAKA, and is supported by two staff, namely Dr Andrea GIACOMELLI, Trade Policy and Aid-for-Trade Advisor, and Ms Lorraine MAIRE, Administrative Assistant.
The Europe desk of Pacific Trade Invest is headed by Ms Robyn EKSTROM
